Disseminating Knowledge and Promoting Oncologic Care
On June 1, 2019, the CAHON Summer, Semi-Annual Symposium and Reception was held at the Metropolitan in Willis Tower, Chicago, IL, during the 2019 ASCO Annual Meeting. Three CAHON members spoke about the recent clinical developments in lung cancer, genitourinary cancer, and gastrointestinal cancer. More than 200 CAHON members and guests attended this event.

On July 27, 2019 -- Hampton Roads Oncology Updates 2019 -- the CAHON Community Oncology CME Conference was jointly held by the CAHON Clinical Practice Committee and US Oncology in New Port News, Virginia. Close to 200 people attended the meeting and about 50 were CAHON members from around the country. The meeting focused on GI malignancies, with updates on medical oncology, surgical oncology and cancer genetics. CAHON members enjoyed a social gathering after the education event.

On November 16-17, 2019, the 6th Annual New York Oncology Forum (NYOF) was held at the Sheraton La Guardia Hotel in Flushing, New York. The Forum attracted over 135 attendees including 96 CAHON members. More than 20 experts, 18 of which were CAHON members, gave talks about different areas of oncology management. Dr. Kanti Rai, who was awarded the CAHON’s Lifetime Achievement Award during the CAHON Annual Meeting, presented the keynote address about the Current Therapy for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.

On December 7, 2019, the CAHON Semi-Annual Winter Symposium and Reception was held at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Conference Center in Orlando, FL, during the 2019 ASH Annual Meeting. Four CAHON members spoke on the recent clinical developments in hematologic malignancies. More than 100 CAHON members and guests attended this event.

Leading the Field of Immuno-Oncology
CAHON successfully co-hosted the 5th Annual Cancer Immunotherapy Workshop, June 29-30, 2019 in Tianjin, China with the China Center for Food and Drug International Exchange (CCFDIE), Center of Drug Evaluation (CDE) of the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) , and the Tsinghua University School of Medicine. Once again, CAHON played a leading role in convening the world’s leaders in the development, investigation, and evaluation of new cancer Immunotherapeutics together, to discuss the next wave of the development of immune-oncology. The event featured academic IO thought leaders from Harvard, Yale, Stanford, John Hopkins, The Ohio State University, University of Washington, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of California Irvine, and the University of Michigan as well as their counterpart leaders from Tsinghua University, Nan Kai University, and SYS School of Medicine. Senior executives from Merck and Astella provided industry perspectives.

Bridging the Gap in the Hematologic and Oncologic Research and Patient Care Between China and the United States

Bridging the Gap in Clinical Practice of Oncology Between China and the United States
In July 2019, CAHON's Clinical Practice Committee organized a delegation of twelve CAHON members to travel to Guiyang, Qianzhou. As community-based experts, their goal was to meet and exchange experiences with colleagues from Guizhou Medical University Hospital and Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Fifteen CAHON members participated in case discussions, lectures and question and answer sessions with representatives from many of the hosting hospital departments. There was great interest in cooperating in order to integrate modern medicine with traditional Chinese medicine and to improve the level of diagnosis, treatment and scientific research of cancer in China.

Promoting Career Development of Future Hematologists and Oncologists
Since 2018, nearly 40 trainees have joined CAHON as Associate Members. The CAHON Fellow Committee has successfully organized a Trainee Session during the 6th Annual New York Oncology Forum (NYOF) in November 2019. CAHON provided multiple travel awards to Associate Members to attend the Virginia Beach CME Conference and the CAHON New York Oncology Forum (NYOF).

Increasing Key Strategic Partnerships
On June 2, 2019, CAHON signed a Memoradum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) establishing a partnership to work together to improve oncologic patient care in China.
