Chong-xian Pan, MD, PhD, MS, is a board certified medical oncologist and hematologist, physician scientist, immunologist and clinical investigator. He received his MD from Fudan University Shanghai Medical College, PhD in Microbiology & Immunology at Loyola University Chicago, and MS in Clinical Research at University of California Davis (UC Davis). He finished his Hematology/Oncology fellowship training at Indiana University before joining UC Davis. Currently he is a Professor of Medicine and Urology, Leader of the Cancer Therapeutics Program, Principal Investigator (PI) and Associate Director of the Paul Calabresi Career Development (K12) Program at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Pan is an internationally recognized genitourinary oncologist and has been invited to present at numerous national and international conferences. His laboratory research focuses on translational research. Some of his research projects include establishment, characterization and clinical applications of patient derived cancer xenografts and humanized mice for development of targeted therapy and immunotherapy; cancer specific nanoparticles, including porphyri based nanoparticles, for the ranostic applications; a nontoxic microdosing approach to identify chemoresistance and decipher the underlying resistant mechanisms before cancer patients receive toxic chemotherapy. Dr. Pan is the inventor of four patents, and serves as the PI of numerous clinical trials, including six clinical trials that are based on his and his collaborator’s pre clinical studies, and Dr. Pan oversaw the pre IND (Investigational New Drug) consultations, GMP drug formulation and manufacturing, IND applications, regulatory approvals and conduct of the clinical trials. He co founded three companies that have translated the pre clinical findings from his own groups into clinical trials. His research has been funded by NIH, DoD, VA, American Cancer Society and many other agencies.
